Spotlight: Danielle Doby

Spotlights is a space to celebrate some of our favorite boss ladies who inspire us and embody all that we stand for.

Meet Danielle
Danielle Doby is a storyteller, artist, and author of the book, "I Am Her Tribe." Danielle believes that our stories are the keys that open the door to hope in others. The meeting place where the truth finds the light. She writes for her own healing. She shares to meet her courage. The magic happens when someone else sees their reflection in the words.

Inspiration for the soul...

When do you feel the most beautiful?
When I am fully embodied on my yoga mat - fluid, connected to my body, without a care of what it looks like - only moving for how it feels. A freedom to move and be in my own space.

If you wrote a love letter to yourself (or body), what would it say?

Do not wait with your precious life before you wear that certain thing - you know, the one you tell yourself you will slip on when you look a certain way? Wear the thing. And don't forget to dance.

What are some of your favorite ways that you show up for yourself and others?
Hands down, quality time. It has been a big personal practice with my health over the past few years.

Your poems in your first book, “I Am Her Tribe” are so emotive and personal, when was the moment that you decided you were ready to share your voice and heart space with the world?
I grew up in an art studio, so creative expression has always been nurtured and encouraged for both my sister and I. However, I feel as though I really stepped into myself and my voice on November 26th, 2016. This is the day I chose to be sober, and every day since then I have made the same choice. In this choosing I have met new pieces of myself and my voice. Writing is a medium that allows me to hold my feelings and experiences in my hands. A place where I have found healing to be possible.

How does it make you feel when someone shares that they’ve connected with your words?
It is such a privilege to have the opportunity to create something that serves as a bridge between someone and their feelings.

What is the most profound way that sharing your poetry has had on your own life?
Writing helps me connect to my own deep healing. Sharing allows me to meet my courage. The magic happens when someone else sees their reflection in the words.

When does your heart feel the most expansive?
When I am in service of others.

What is one desire that you wish to manifest over the next year?
A healthy, healed body and mind.
